Let me start out by saying that the Sunday before we left was the scariest moment of my parenting life so far. I was outside with Colton in the yard cutting down some weeds and cherry laurel off shoots. He was running around in the fenced part of the yard playing ball with the dog. There is a small porch that has two concrete steps that lead into the back door. Apparently he went up the steps and either fell or rolled down the steps. I heard a "thump" and my heart immediately sank. He came around the corner crying hysterically with no sound coming out. I could see that he had hit the side of his head, right above his hair line mid way in the middle of his head. I picked him right up and was trying to calm him down. i was blowing in his face to try and get him to breathe. All of a sudden his eyes rolled up in his head and he went limp for about 5 seconds. I kinda shook him and kept blowing in his face and he started breathing again and crying. I consoled him for a about 10 minutes before he quit crying. I looked at his eyes and there was no dilation. The bump was out and not sunken in. After that 10 minutes or so, he was back to running around the yard. I took him in and gave him a bath and was terrified he was going to die in his sleep from a head injury or a brain aneurysm like Natasha Richardson did. I kept going to his door to try and hear if he was making any noise and of course I got NO SLEEP that night. I heard him at about 6:30 making noise. Steve didn't notice until the next day and just said "what did he do that last night?" I said yeah and he left it at that.
We made it back from our cruise "adventure". Honestly it went better than I thought it would. I was most concerned about Colton's sleeping and dinner time. The boats can be noisy and with him sleeping in Mom's room, she would have to come in when she was ready for bed and I was worried that would wake him up. Also he goes to bed at 7:30 so I was concerned it just wouldn't work. He went right down for his naps and for the night and he slept like a champ!!! Dinner went all right as well. We ate at 5:45 and by about 7:00, he was just get fussy, but that was the time that dessert came so he was ok. He ate really well. He made a HUGE mess both on himself and the floor but he was congenial and flirting with the ladies and made friends with all the waiters. It was a little rough during the day that we were cruising all day though. I had to find something for him to do to run off his energy--so he climbed up and down the stairs many, many, many times!! We went to the pool everyday afternoon after his nap.
The cold pool water hitting his "boys"
Looking out our cabin window at the open ocean
Getting ready to go snorkel--well Steve and I did.
Me and my little man
In his race car float back at the pool.
Pirates of the Caribbean
See-sawing back at home
Playing in his pool back at home in his bikini!!
I have many more pictures posted on my Facebook page. If we are not "friends" on there yet, send me a request--Kelli Cook Rogers
